U.S.A.: FATCA : IRS release a draft of the new Form 8957 for public review and comment

09.04.2013

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released the draft of a new Form 8957, FATCA Registration Process, dated 5 April 2013.

This draft of the FATCA registration form for financial institutions, which is released for public review and comment only, provides an overview of the questions that are most likely to be included in the online registration process to make electronic completion of the process as simple as possible.

The online registration portal is scheduled to be available in July 2013.

Financial institutions that want to use a paper form for registration cannot use this draft Form 8957 but must use the final paper registration that is expected to be published in July 2013. However, the IRS strongly recommends the use of the electronic online registration.

No further details have yet been provided and we are awaiting the final version and relevant instructions.

The above information is not intended to be exhaustive. We will continue to monitor the IRS and commentator publications and will provide customers with further relevant information in due course.
