Lithuania: New withholding tax rates on Government Bonds

Further to our Announcement A14099, dated 7 July 2014, effective

immediately

a 0% withholding tax rate applies on income paid for Lithuanian Government Bonds eligible in Clearstream Banking1.

Categories of eligible beneficial owners:

  • 0% for non-Lithuanian residents (both legal entities and individuals);
  • 0% for Lithuanian legal entities (interest is included in the taxable corporate income); and
  • 0% for Lithuanian individuals (if the bond has been acquired on or after 1 January 2014 and the amount of interest exceeds EUR 500 per tax year, investors themselves must declare income to the Lithuanian Tax Authority and pay taxes after the end of the respective financial year).

Note: It is the responsibility of all beneficial owners that they comply with all legal and regulatory requirements imposed by Lithuanian law in respect to withholding tax.
