Slovenia: New withholding tax rate
Effective
1 January 2013
the withholding tax rate on income paid on taxable Slovenian bonds and equities will be increased from 20% to 25%.
Background
The Slovenian Public Finance Balance Act established the increase of the withholding tax rate to 25% to be applicable on:
- Interest paid on:
- Corporate bonds not listed on organised markets or with equity swap option;
- Unlisted bank bonds;
- Dividends.
Currently these securities are subject to 20% tax.
Interest paid on government bonds and on corporate bonds listed on organised markets remains exempt from withholding tax.
Impact on customers
The possibilities to recover the tax applied at source via the standard refund procedure described in our Announcement A11060, dated 13 May 2011, remain unchanged.
