Peru: Change of currency name

09.02.2016

The Peruvian government has changed the name of the Peruvian currency from “Nuevo Sol” to “Sol”.

This follows the Peruvian government’s enactment of  Law N°303381, which changed the name of the Peruvian currency, effective 15 December 2015.

The currency name change does not imply any change to the value of the local currency.

In parallel to the new name “Sol”, the use of the currency name “Nuevo Sol” will continue to be permissible in documents, transactions, prices and registers until 31 December 2016.

The ISO currency code remains PEN.
