LEIs now widely used

Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs) are increasingly recognised by regulators and play an important role in the transparency debate and the disclosure frameworks for financial market participants across industry sectors. To ensure data quality, the requirement for registrants to maintain their LEIs every year is gaining momentum. LEIs contain key reference information and enable clear and unique identification of legal entities in global financial markets.

The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) is now fully operational. The GLEIF is playing a key role in formalising LEI standards, providing reference data and overseeing  accredited Local Operating Units (LOUs).

As a pre-LOU, LuxCSD offers the Luxembourg-based “LuxEIS” service. LuxEIS is tailored to the needs of Luxembourg-domiciled entities and investment funds combining local service with efficient online registration and maintenance of reference data.

In January 2015, LuxCSD published a LuxEIS How to obtain an LEI code along with specific guidance on the porting and challenge process.
