Fund types in the Cayman Islands include:
Mutual funds and Master funds which can be established as a company, partnership or unit trust. They are required to register with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.
A company could be in the form of a limited company or segregated portfolio formed under the Companies Law (2020 Revision) or a limited liability company formed under the Limited Liability Companies Law (2016). Trusts are common law trusts. Partnerships would be registered under the Exempted Limited Partnership Law (2018 Revision).
A private fund can be structured as a company, unit trust or partnership. Private equity funds, venture capital funds, infrastructure funds and other closed-ended funds are generally regarded as “private funds” under Cayman Islands law.
